Long time no “see”! Sorry for my extended absence. I’ve been dealing with some health issues that have delayed me a bit. I haven’t forgotten about Covert Cover Cracked; I fully expect it to be out by the end of February (knock on wood). If you want to know when it’s available, please feel free to join my Mailing List. I don’t share or sell this list to anyone, and you only get an email when I have a new release.
In the meantime, I wanted to touch base and talk a little bit about what’s happened in Covert Assignment and Covert Interview, as well as what you can expect in Covert Cover Cracked. Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I figured it’s a great time to talk about life and love: specifically, Elle’s life and love life. I’ll try to do the best I can, keeping in mind that not everyone has read Covert Interview yet ;).
I know there was some surprise and upset about what happened in Covert Interview. I’m not trying to torture you (or poor Elle): I just want to be faithful to the experience of what being a “new adult” is like, including the highs and the lows. It’s what I love about the New Adult category: I truly believe the “new adult period” is a unique, special, exciting, and terrifying time in a person’s life. That’s what makes it fun to write.
As a new adult, Elle wasn’t ready for her HEA by the end of Covert Assignment or even Covert Interview. She had some more living and growing up to do, and I think it’s hard to determine who your “happily ever after” should be until you’ve grown up a bit.
Relationships teach us things, though. With Adam, Elle learned that friends aren’t necessarily the best lovers, even if they feel safe and seem like the practical choice. With Preston, she got swept off her feet and opened herself up to a completely different life path. Lyle basically showed Elle that there are other “fish in the sea,” so to speak. Broken hearts heal.
In Covert Cover Cracked, however, Elle’s feeling a bit gun-shy after several failed relationships. SHE is the common denominator in all of them, and don’t forget, she was the “leftovers” in her family. Add in the pesky complication that her work for the CIA must be kept secret, and Elle isn’t sure love (and an HEA) is in the cards for her.
Luckily, Navy SEAL Reese is more than up to the challenge to teach her otherwise. He’s had plenty of flings and knows what they have isn’t one. The question is: will Elle be brave enough to risk her heart again?
Check back: I’ll have some excerpts from Covert Cover Cracked among some other fun things coming up!
