I am so, so, so sorry for my loooooong absence. I’m afraid life happened. I thought I would be leaving town for a weekend, or a week at the most, and ended up being gone for four long months. Being back home feels like being in an alternate reality at the moment.
My absence completely derailed the release of my new series, Smart is the New Sexy. I do plan for that series to see the light of day, really! However, I have to get everything back on track, including writing the rest of the series, so at this point, I’ve decided the best thing to do is delay the release until 2015, Keep an eye out for a late spring/summer release. I hate the delay, but I refuse to release anything but my absolutely best work. You deserve that!
As for the Covert series, that has been delayed, too, I’m afraid. I had two more books planned in the series, but the more I think about it, it seems like the two books would do better as one book. I’m playing around with things, seeing how it works. Elle and Reese will make it to a permanent HEA, but I need to figure out exactly how I want to tell the story of how they get there.
After the unexpected turn my life took this summer, I’m afraid to even give a “guesstimate” on when I think Covert Series #4 will be ready until it’s much further along. Once I know, though, you can be sure I’ll tell you.
But for those of you who haven’t read the series yet, keep your eye out for the Covert Series #1-3 box set! It’ll be available at retailers soon. If you want to know when, feel free to join my Mailing List.
If you’ve been considering trying out my Covert Series, this is a great week to give them a try! The first three books feature Elle Paquet, an Information Scientist (21st century term for Librarian, she likes to say) turned spy for the CIA.
Covert Assignment is currently on sale for $0.99.
- Elle is in her final year of college with a Plan for her adult life after growing up feeling like the unwanted leftovers of her parents’ divorce. She’s going to go to grad school, eventually marry her college sweetheart, and establish her own family. Yet everything changes when she returns to school for her final semester. There are pictures of her boyfriend getting too friendly with a classmate. Then she finds out the CIA is funding her thesis, and they need to “accelerate her timetable to completion,” so they assign hot agent Preston Raddick to work with her. Preston isn’t just hot, he’s hot for Elle, but is he offering happily ever after or happy for right now?
Covert Interview is currently FREE.
- Elle thinks lessons are over now that she’s graduated from college, but it turns out the life lessons are just beginning. Working for the CIA isn’t quite what she thought it would be, and a romance with Preston isn’t quite what she thought it would be, either.
Covert Cover Cracked is also on sale for $0.99.
- Elle feels her career is on more solid footing as a newly-rated field agent for the agency, but her professional life is causing serious problems for her personal life. She decides to have a fling, and Navy SEAL Reese Beckwith seems like the perfect candidate, until Reese begins to want more than just a fling.
And no, I still haven’t figured out how to make the Sims people move. If anyone has any tips, I’m open to hearing them!
Ebook Escapes is also hosting a giveaway: one winner will win the first three books in the Covert Series: Covert Assignment, Covert Interview, and Covert Cover Cracked. Enter the Rafflecopter giveaway!
I’m sure many of you noticed that the Covert Series had a new look with the release of Covert Cover Cracked. Just so we’re clear: there are NO changes to Covert Assignment and Covert Interview. They’re the same books that came out in November: only the covers are different. I don’t want anyone to accidentally buy the books twice; I can imagine how that would be a little, well, upsetting.
I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to see Elle’s third book come out. This is where she finally gets her HEA! I can’t even begin to tell you how frustrating it’s been to deal with all the delays; I intended for this book to be out by Christmas. Production issues, and then health issues on my end, caused quite a hold up. I’m sorry for that!
There are some questions I keep getting, so I wanted to take this opportunity to answer them.
The first is about Elle’s love life.
Q: Is Elle going to find the right guy or just keep dating guys?
A: She IS going to find the right guy. She finds him in Covert Cover Cracked. Although Elle thought she had her “adult life” all figured out in college, what she had to learn was that the possibilities out there in the “real world” were greater than she ever imagined. In Covert Assignment her relationship with Preston was part of “opening up that door,” so to speak, to all these possibilities she hadn’t considered. It didn’t necessarily make him the guy she should settle down with. In Covert Interview Elle learned that the hard way, but she came back from her disappointment. I think this is a key experience in growing up, which is why I had her go through that.
Another question I’m getting asked a lot is what’s going to happen next in the Covert Series.
Q: Is the Covert Series a trilogy that’s going to end?
A: Initially, that was my plan. Yet Covert Cover Cracked didn’t work, partly because I had too much planned for that book. By the end of Covert Cover Cracked, Elle is set up to have the life she wanted, both personally and professionally. The one thing she hasn’t really dealt with, however, is her family. In my experience, family issues have a way of rearing their ugly heads just when we think we’ve moved beyond them as an adult. It’s what makes the holidays and big events like weddings so stressful. Elle will be no different. There’s also the little complication of Michael Kagen (make sure you don’t miss the epilogue in Covert Cover Cracked). Elle and Reese aren’t going to have an easy time of it when they’re ready to take the next step. Her personal and professional lives will REALLY collide in Covert Series Book #5.
Then I had an idea for another book in the Covert Series, involving some other characters. The idea just will not leave me alone, which tells me I need to write it. So it’s going to be Covert Series Book #4. Stay tuned: I bet you can’t guess what it’ll be ;).
One other change: Amazon Prime members can now borrow any book in the Covert Series for FREE.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Okay, I know, the cards can get rather cheesy (I’m into the candy, myself), but who doesn’t want a little love? If you’re single this Valentine’s Day (or dating a guy who really doesn’t value the holiday, which, let’s face it, usually happens after year 2 or so of dating ;), then there are other ways to find love. There’s nothing wrong with finding it in a book!
For one day only, these great titles are available for 0.99. (Covert Assignment will increase to $2.99 next week.)
The books above are a combination of chick lit/YA and romance, so there’s something for everyone! You can check out all of the book links (including the buy links) at Emily Craven’s website.
