Where Have I Been?

Covert_Box_Set_FinalI am so, so, so sorry for my loooooong absence. I’m afraid life happened. I thought I would be leaving town for a weekend, or a week at the most, and ended up being gone for four long months. Being back home feels like being in an alternate reality at the moment.

My absence completely derailed the release of my new series, Smart is the New Sexy. I do plan for that series to see the light of day, really! However, I have to get everything back on track, including writing the rest of the series, so at this point, I’ve decided the best thing to do is delay the release until 2015, Keep an eye out for a late spring/summer release. I hate the delay, but I refuse to release anything but my absolutely best work. You deserve that!

As for the Covert series, that has been delayed, too, I’m afraid. I had two more books planned in the series, but the more I think about it, it seems like the two books would do better as one book. I’m playing around with things, seeing how it works. Elle and Reese will make it to a permanent HEA, but I need to figure out exactly how I want to tell the story of how they get there.

After the unexpected turn my life took this summer, I’m afraid to even give a “guesstimate” on when I think Covert Series #4 will be ready until it’s much further along. Once I know, though, you can be sure I’ll tell you.

But for those of you who haven’t read the series yet, keep your eye out for the Covert Series #1-3 box set! It’ll be available at retailers soon. If you want to know when, feel free to join my Mailing List.

The New Look of the Covert Series

Covert Series Books 1 - 3

I’m sure many of you noticed that the Covert Series had a new look with the release of Covert Cover Cracked. Just so we’re clear: there are NO changes to Covert Assignment and Covert Interview. They’re the same books that came out in November: only the covers are different. I don’t want anyone to accidentally buy the books twice; I can imagine how that would be a little, well, upsetting.

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to see Elle’s third book come out. This is where she finally gets her HEA! I can’t even begin to tell you how frustrating it’s been to deal with all the delays; I intended for this book to be out by Christmas. Production issues, and then health issues on my end, caused quite a hold up. I’m sorry for that!

There are some questions I keep getting, so I wanted to take this opportunity to answer them.

The first is about Elle’s love life.

Q: Is Elle going to find the right guy or just keep dating guys?

A: She IS going to find the right guy. She finds him in Covert Cover Cracked. Although Elle thought she had her “adult life” all figured out in college, what she had to learn was that the possibilities out there in the “real world” were greater than she ever imagined. In Covert Assignment her relationship with Preston was part of “opening up that door,” so to speak, to all these possibilities she hadn’t considered.  It didn’t necessarily make him the guy she should settle down with. In Covert Interview Elle learned that the hard way, but she came back from her disappointment. I think this is a key experience in growing up, which is why I had her go through that.

Another question I’m getting asked a lot is what’s going to happen next in the Covert Series.

Q: Is the Covert Series a trilogy that’s going to end?

A: Initially, that was my plan. Yet Covert Cover Cracked didn’t work, partly because I had too much planned for that book. By the end of Covert Cover Cracked, Elle is set up to have the life she wanted, both personally and professionally. The one thing she hasn’t really dealt with, however, is her family. In my experience, family issues have a way of rearing their ugly heads just when we think we’ve moved beyond them as an adult. It’s what makes the holidays and big events like weddings so stressful. Elle will be no different. There’s also the little complication of Michael Kagen (make sure you don’t miss the epilogue in Covert Cover Cracked). Elle and Reese aren’t going to have an easy time of it when they’re ready to take the next step. Her personal and professional lives will REALLY collide in Covert Series Book #5.

Then I had an idea for another book in the Covert Series, involving some other characters. The idea just will not leave me alone, which tells me I need to write it. So it’s going to be Covert Series Book #4.  Stay tuned: I bet you can’t guess what it’ll be ;).

One other change: Amazon Prime members can now borrow any book in the Covert Series for FREE.

Introducing Covert Assignment Blog Tour

Covert Assignment ebook cover

I remember well the huge transition of going off to college. I felt like I’d finally become “an adult.” Well, it turns out life is full of transitions and big moments, and releasing your first novel ranks right up there as a Big One. This December (Dec 2 – 7) there will be a blog review tour of the first book in my Covert Series, which is called Covert Assignment. Although the reviews will focus on the first book in the series, Covert Assignment, all three books in the Covert series will release in early December. Here’s what Covert Assignment book is about:

Covert Assignment is a New Adult, Coming of Age Novel with a strong romantic element. Elle is ready for graduation and full-fledged adulthood: no more living like the leftover of her parent’s divorce. After four years of year-round study, she’s about to graduate with a master’s degree in Information Science (the 21st century term for Library Science). Elle’s got a ten-year plan as well-designed as any model for analyzing metadata: earn her JD/MBA, enjoy a couple of years as a single professional, then marry her college sweetheart, Adam, and start her own family.

Yet Elle feels like she returned to an alternate universe her final semester. There are pictures of Adam with a classmate who must be surgically enhanced, but he insists he wants Elle. The organization that’s funding her thesis? It’s a shell corporation for the CIA. They “accelerated” her completion timetable, so hot operative Preston Raddock is tasked to work with her. Preston isn’t just hot: he’s hot for Elle, but is he offering happy ever after or happy for right now? Oh, and the CIA offers her a job, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to join the intelligence community. If only she could develop a predictive model to tell her which decisions have the greater likelihood for happiness.

Covert Assignment is about the unexpected turns life can take when making “adult” decisions.
